Pilot Bike Sharing Program ‘ofo’ Rolls Out

  Revere Journal Article    Story by Sue Ellen Woodcock   If you see someone on the streets riding a yellow bicycle, it’s part of a new ride share program that is the largest in the world. The Mayor and the Healthy Community Initiatives launched a  pilot program of a citywide, bike-sharing program with the world’s first and largest station-free bike sharing company, ofo.  The funny little company name is more of a logo than a word, said Grace Lin, vice president of ofo U.S.  The word is also a logo for the company meant to look like a bicycle. “ofo looks like a bike,” Lin said. Lin and her crew dropped off 200 bicycles  in Revere Monday morning and Lin said they hope to expand to the program in 2018. New Playground being installed at Oak Island Park

By THOMAS GRILLO REVERE — The city has a sparkle thanks to a volunteer effort to spruce up neighborhood parks, the business district and even a cemetery. The projects, “Beautify Revere” and “Community Build,” brought more than 300 residents together for a single purpose: making the city a better place for everyone. Last weekend, this year’s final clean-up was completed at the Rumney Marsh Burial Ground, the National Register of Historic Places resting place of 545 of Revere’s earliest settlers on Butler Street. Two miles away, Kerri Courtois and her team installed a new playground set at Oak Island Park, one block from Revere Beach. Revere Citywide Free Fitness Challenge May 11th & 5K Race set for June 13th

News Release by City of Revere Revere – The City of Revere and Mayor Daniel Rizzo are pleased to announce that the “Revere Citywide Free Fitness Challenge” is slated to kick-off on May 11, 2015 and will run for five weeks ending on June 10, 2015. The 5K Race which signifies the end of the challenge is being held on June 13, 2015. The annual Fitness Challenge is designed to highlight the benefits of healthy eating and fitness. It also demonstrates how important health and exercise is, while showing residents that it can also be fun and exciting. Apple Crunch at Revere Beach Pumpkin Festival

In celebration of Food Day 2014, Revere on the Move, the Revere Beach Partnership, and the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources are sponsoring an Apple Crunch! At a pre-set time (~12:30pm), participants will line up along the beach and take a biig juicy CRUNCH out of a free apple in unison! Photos will then be posted on social media with #FoodDay2014 to show that Revere cares about nutrition and food policies! Food Day is an annual, national event which inspires Americans to think and act on our diets and the food policies that help or hinder our well-being.
