Floodgate Problem Leads To Flooding, Ice Damage At Revere Homes

Filed Under: Carl Stevens, Christina Hager, Ice, Revere February 15, 2016   WBZ-TV  CBS Boston REVERE (CBS) — A floodgate problem over the weekend led to flooding and ice damage at homes on Arcadia Street at Oakland Island in Revere.   A pool of ice has formed under an Arcadia Street home in Revere. (WBZ-TV) Maureen Sullivan is one of many residents in the area who are putting the pieces back together on Monday. “Who’s going to pay for all the damage that’s done?” she asked. Revere has spent about $2 million trying to fix a floodgate, which is supposed to prevent the tide from flowing over a gully and gushing into the neighborhood. But the floodgate was so cold this weekend that it froze open, turning yards into crunchy, salty ice rinks.   Saltwater flooded into a Revere neighborhood over the weekend, creating ice skating rink-type yards. See Full Story at Revere Journal Revere Beach one of the cleanest in the Boston Area The nation’s first public beach remains strong as one of the cleanest beaches in the area on Save the Harbor/Save the Bay’s mid-summer beach report released this week. Last year at this point in the summer Revere Beach scored a 100 percent on the report and scored the same this time around. According to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay’s Director of Strategy, Communications and Programs Bruce Berman Revere Beach is still on the top 10 of the cleanest beaches from Nahant to Nantasket while frequent rain back in June and during some weeks in July forced beach closures due to high bacteria levels at other public beaches. “There are two ways to fix an urban beach problem,” said Berman. “One way is to sever every pipe that goes into the beach and that’s what …
