Revere welcomes Mayor Arrigo, new City Council, School Committee

Story by Revere Advocate – Staff

Excited residents flooded City Hall Monday to watch a new mayor, city council and school committee take the oath of office. When new mayor Brian Arrigo, walked into City Hall, he was greeted with a loud applause and standing ovation. “We love you, Brian,” a supporter yelled from the audience. So many attended the swearing-in ceremony that some had to watch from the hallway.

Arrigo did not give a speech Monday night, as the ceremony had to be curtailed after a recount delayed preparations for the event. A full ceremony is to come later in the month.

The new mayor defeated incumbent Mayor Dan Rizzo by a vote of 5,210 to 5,102. A recount occurred at the end of December, officially declaring Arrigo mayor of Revere.

After Arrigo was sworn in, he was greeted by his family in the front row. He gave his father, a former city councillor, a kiss on the head. He also kissed his wife and newborn son.

Arrigo told The Advocate the experience was a dream come true for him. “To share that experience with my family – especially my parents, beautiful wife and newborn son – was pretty special,” he said. “Now, the real work has begun.”
